Galopin Des Champs is the headline act of the ‘Mullins monopoly’ at this weekend’s Dublin Racing Festival .
But it is dual Cheltenham Gold Cup hero Galopin Des Champs who tops the bill as he seeks a hat-trick of triumphs in this afternoon’s Paddy Power Irish Gold Cup. Hurricane Fly won 22 Grade 1 races from 32 outings over jumps and with Galopin Des Champs still in his prime, the prospect of him hitting the €3 million mark is not ambitious.Last year he was champion trainer in both Ireland and Britain, banking an incredible €11 million for his owners.
The Paul Townend-ridden nine-year-old, successful from sidelined rival Fastorslow 12 months ago in the Irish Gold Cup, was back to his brilliant best when beating reopposing stablemate Fact To File by seven and a half lengths in the Savills Chase at the Foxrock venue over Christmas.
