Donegal are currently in Abu Dhabi on a warm weather camp, while Kerry have stated publicly that they won't be shelling out for one in 2025.
A leading Galway official has hit out at the cost of warm weather training camps and questioned their value to inter-county teams.
Rising costs of training weekends in Ireland and the increasingly unpredictable weather have seen trips abroad become more popular again over the past 12 months. And given that Jim McGuinness was involved in professional soccer for almost a decade this may be driving their thinking on warm weather training camps.
Speaking about warm weather training camps, outgoing treasurer Burke told the Galway GAA convention: “They are an enormous expense. The cost of Kerry’s camp last year was included in their accounts as a ‘sundy cost,’ with a figure of just over €200,000 covering new software, the training camp and other costs such as laundry of playing gear.
The year before Galway became the first county to crash through the €2 million barrier for spending on inter-county teams.
