'He’s been an unbelievable player for us, for Galway. Probably Galway’s greatest player, I would say.'
Evan Niland has hailed David Burke as Galway’s greatest ever player and says the long-serving midfielder’s career shouldn’t end on a sour note.
“Very disappointed for David,” said Niland. “He’s been an unbelievable player for us, for Galway. Probably Galway’s greatest player, I would say, to be honest. An unbelievable leader.”“For me, yeah,” Niland insisted. “I think he’s an ultimate team player. Ultimate leader. Everyone looks to him. “Yeah, look, Henry said it after the game, everyone’s just going to take a few weeks. He’s in year three himself and he was saying after year three I’m always going to reassess things.
Speculation doesn’t just surround the position of several senior players like Burke but also the management team led by Henry Shefflin, amid widespread expectation that he will step down after an underwhelming three years in the role.
