Next year, a big expansion is coming to chilly Game Pass survival title The Long Dark.
Tales from the Far Territory, a 12-month Expansion Pass campaign that expands The Long Dark's Survival mode with new regions, story challenges, gameplay systems, and more.Tales from the Far Territory will cost $19.99, and it will add three new regions connected by long travel zones and a hub region to Survival mode in The Long Dark. The first new region is Forsaken Airfield, which will be included along with the travel zones when the Expansion Pass launches.
You will also have three new narrative-themed challenges to complete within Survival mode that will reveal"insights into the Far Territory’s mysterious history," and there are new gameplay systems, including, handheld shortwave, travois, safehouse customisation, a trader, more complex cooking recipes, and new item variants. Hinterland says it will be sharing more on these new systems closer to Tales from the Far Territory's launch.
As for free content, Hinterland says it will continue"making meaningful free updates with new systems, content, and improvements to the 'base' Survival mode." You can expect a global refresh and rebalance of loot and wildlife across the game, visor notes, which are notes that hint at hidden supply caches across the world, new first-person animations, a thermos, a new edible plant, and improvised crampons. More on these free updates will be shared soon.
Unfortunately, your current Survival mode saves will not be compatible with The Long Dark once the game has been updated — this applies to all players whether you pick up the Expansion Pass or not. Hinterland says this is because changes have been made to the save system to improve and future-proof the system.
The Tales from the Far Territory Expansion Pass launches for Xbox consoles in February 2023 and will cost $19.99. Will you be picking up the new Expansion Pass? Let us know!
