Bravo is running for re-election. Perry, who recently returned to the council from a two-month sabbatical, appears likely to run as well, though he has avoided all questions about his political plans.Anyone who listened to the constituents who turned up to address the council before the censure votes against Bravo and Perry will know that both councilmen have some intensely loyal supporters.

But Bravo will face several challengers in May, including educational consultant Sukh Kaur , and digital marketing executive Jeremy Roberts. In recent months, we’ve also seen the emergence of the Justice Charter Coalition, a grassroots organization that apparently secured enough petition signatures to get a charter-amendment proposition on the May ballot.

City Attorney Andy Segovia has stated that even if the proposition passes, both the abortion and marijuana provisions would be negated by state law. Nonetheless, if the proposition makes it on the ballot, it should fuel a turnout surge among young voters that will affect the results in some of the closer council races.
