Referee attends hospital after abandoned match between Dundalk and Ballyjamesduff teams
Gardaí confirmed they are investigating an assault that occurred at approximately 9.40pm on Thursday night at Muirhevanamor, Dundalk. No arrests have been made.
“Unfortunately, assaults and abuse of referees remains an ever present concern of society and our members across the country,” said Mr Long. “We are working hand-in-hand with the refereeing department of the FAI for some time now on various campaigns to reduce attacks on match officials. “The scoreline at the time of abandonment was 1-0 in favour of Bay. Following anticipated receipt of reports on the match the NEFL committee shall conduct an investigation in accordance with rules governing same.”
