Gardaí Investigate Death of Kathleen Carey in Dublin Balcony Fall
Kathleen Carey, Belmayne, Gardaí

Gardaí are investigating the death of Kathleen Carey, who fell from a balcony in Belmayne, Dublin. A postmortem and technical examination will determine if foul play was a factor.

Gardaí are investigating the death of Kathleen Carey, a Dublin mother in her 30s, who fell from a balcony at an apartment in Belmayne, Dublin 13. She died in hospital on Wednesday, two days after the fall, which occurred in unexplained circumstances on Monday between 3pm and 3.45pm.

Investigation into Belmayne Balcony Fall

Gardaí are hopeful that the results of a postmortem and a technical examination at the scene will determine if foul play was a factor. They are considering several possibilities, including that she may have fallen without foul play involved. The possibility that she was pushed has also formed part of the investigation, though the case is being treated as one of alleged serious assault rather than homicide.

A man in his 20s was arrested for questioning in central Dublin on Tuesday after coming to garda attention for an unrelated minor alleged offence. He has since been released without charge. Gardaí say they are now preparing a file for the Director of Public Prosecutions.

An Garda Síochána said in a statement that gardaí continue to appeal to anyone who may have witnessed the incident to contact them. The investigation team at Coolock Garda station wants to speak to anyone who was in the vicinity of Main Street, Belmayne, on Monday between 3pm and 3.45pm. They are also seeking any video footage, including dashcam, recorded in the area at the time.

Family's Loss and Community Appeal

Kathleen Carey was predeceased by three siblings, Georgina, William John and Aaron. She is survived by her parents, John and Marie, and sisters Nikita and Jeni. Her sister Natasha, a mother of five, was buried just three weeks ago.

A family member launched an online fundraising appeal for her funeral. The appeal stated that Kathleen Carey was a kind, loving, funny person who was full of life. It said she always made people smile with her quirky side and was an amazing person who will be deeply missed.

The appeal added that she meant a lot to all of the family and that they are sad to see her go before her time. It said she will be missed terribly and that they want to give her the best send-off they possibly can.

Garda Appeal for Witnesses and Footage

Gardaí have renewed their appeal for witnesses to come forward. They are particularly interested in speaking to anyone who was in the vicinity of Main Street, Belmayne, on Monday between 3pm and 3.45pm.

They are also seeking any video footage, including dashcam recordings, that may have captured the area at the time. The investigation team at Coolock Garda station is leading the inquiry.

The case remains under investigation as gardaí await the postmortem results and the findings of the technical examination. No further arrests have been made, and the file for the Director of Public Prosecutions is being prepared.
