Gardaí are investigating the death of Paula Canty (31) in Co Cork as suspicious. Her body was found in a flat on Friday. The investigation is ongoing.

Gardaí are treating the death of Paula Canty (31) as suspicious after her body was found in a flat in Co Cork on Friday. Paramedics attempted to resuscitate Ms Canty but were unsuccessful. She was pronounced dead at the scene. Gardaí immediately cordoned off the area and requested the services of the State Pathologist’s Office.

Assistant State Pathologist Dr Margot Bolster, who carried out a preliminary examination of Ms Canty’s remains at the scene, will conduct a full postmortem at Cork University Hospital on Saturday. The course of the Garda investigation will be determined by Dr Bolster's findings and whether she can clarify if the injuries were self-inflicted or caused by another person. A Senior Investigative Officer has been appointed to lead the investigation. Gardaí are also hoping that scene of crime examiners may find clues that will assist them in establishing how exactly Ms Canty sustained her fatal injuries. Gardaí have begun harvesting CCTV footage from Bridewell Lane and surrounding streets in Mallow town centre in the hope of establishing who entered and left the Belfry building between 9pm on Thursday and midday on Friday. Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses or anyone with available camera footage, including dashcam recordings from the Bridewell Lane area in Mallow between 9pm on Thursday and 10am on Friday morning to contact Mallow Garda station on 022 31450
