The new system will also be utilised for other major offences which can be caught on dashcam, not just dangerous driving
An Garda Síochána plans to roll out a new online system for members of the public to share dashcam footage of road and other offences as evidence to help secure prosecutions.
It will be a simple click and share portal, Superintendent Liam Geraghty told Morning Ireland on RTÉ Radio on Monday, as he gave an update on Bank Holiday checkpoints which resulted in the arrests of over 130 motorists suspected of driving under the influence of an intoxicant.READ MORE: Man arrested in Gardaí probe of suspected arson on site falsely linked to asylum seekers
Supt Geraghty added that the new digital system, coupled with reports from the public, will make it easier for investigating Gardaí to compile reports of dangerous or reckless driving and could be used as solid evidence in court. "But it will make the system far easier for us to get that footage from other drivers on the road who have complaints about the driving of other people, to make that complaint to us and allow us then to investigate it properly."
