Drew Harris was speaking on Wednesday after the families of seven of the 10 people who died in the horror asked the government to set up a public inquiry into the October 2022 tragedy in rural Donegal when a complex including a filling station and apartments suffered a massive gas explosion.
Gardai investigating the Creeslough tragedy are close to sending a file on the disaster to prosecutors, Commissioner Drew Harris has said.
Four people, including three men and a woman, were arrested as part of the probe – and the DPP is now set to examine if any of them should face prosecution.READ MORE: Former senior Garda calls on Drew Harris to resign over Coolock riots “The purpose of submitting a file to the Director Public Prosecutions is for the purpose of is there criminal liability.“But it is for the director to decide on the evidence then. That process is ongoing.”
“I want to ensure and the government wants to ensure that they get all of the answers that they need, that they deserve, not just to understand what happened to their loved ones, how this could have happened, but also to make sure that this never happens to anybody ever again. “I think we need to allow the Garda investigation to take its course. The gardai have been very clear that no stone will be left unturned in making sure that all of the evidence, all of the facts, all that is needed is presented to the DPP.
“We need to make sure that the investigation can take its course, but also to understand what more information can be provided to make sure the families get absolutely everything that they need and that they deserve.”
