The Garda Síochána's Dublin Crime Response Team carried out an operation in Blanchardstown on Friday, observing and intercepting the handover of drugs in a public place.
The operation was part of an intelligence-led investigation into the sale and supply of drugs, resulting in the seizure of large quantities of cocaine, cannabis, and MDMA. The drugs seized included approximately 18kg of suspected cocaine worth €1.8 million, as well as additional cocaine found in a vehicle at the scene valued at about €400,000.
Further searches in Dublin led to the discovery of 5,000 MDMA tablets worth an estimated €50,000, and four kilograms of cannabis herb valued at approximately €56,000. Two men in their 50s and 60s were arrested and detained at a Garda station in the Dublin region under the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking Act) 1996. The investigation and subsequent operation were aimed at disrupting the supply of drugs in the region and bringing those responsible to justice.
The operation demonstrates the Garda Síochána's commitment to tackling drug trafficking and related crimes. In a separate incident, a former RTÉ presenter, Keith Walsh, has filed a lawsuit against the broadcaster for unfair dismissal.
Additionally, a man was arrested in connection with the discovery of a dead body next to a seriously injured child in Co Tyrone. The circumstances surrounding the child's injuries are currently under investigation. A separate incident in Spain, where an Irish woman and her husband died in a hot tub, is also being investigated, with preliminary findings suggesting that the deaths may have been accidental
