Gardaí will begin a search of a house in Navan on Friday in connection with the disappearance of a young mother who vanished in 2013. Elizabeth Clarke, a 24-year-old mother of two, went missing 12 years ago. She had previously lived in Portrane and Bettystown, Co. Meath, with her family. The search, led by Gardaí from the Meath Serious Crime Hub based at Navan Garda Station, will be supported by the Meath Divisional Search team and the Garda National Technical Bureau.
The operation also has the backing of other state expertise, including a Forensic Archaeologist if required. This search comes as the case has been reclassified by An Garda Síochána from a missing person investigation to a murder investigation. The search for Elizabeth has been the focus of a sustained Garda investigation by the investigation team based at Navan Garda Station since her family officially reported her missing in January 2015. Gardaí have conducted extensive inquiries, including house-to-house searches, land searches, and canal and river searches, aided by the Garda Water Unit and Meath River Rescue. Despite these efforts, there have been no sightings of Elizabeth in over a decade. An Garda Síochána has kept Elizabeth Clarke's family fully informed about the investigation and has updated them on all recent developments. Investigating Gardaí continue to appeal to anyone with information regarding Elizabeth Clarke's disappearance and murder to come forward to the investigation team. The public is urged not to assume that An Garda Síochána already possesses the information or that it is of limited value. They are asked to allow the investigation team to assess its significance. Given the length of time since Elizabeth's disappearance, Gardaí ask that anyone who might have information but has hesitated to come forward previously to do so now. An Garda Síochána assures them they will be treated with sensitivity. The investigation team can be contacted at Navan Garda Station at 046 9036100, through your local Garda Station, or the Garda Confidential telephone line 1800 666 111
