Up to 200 bicycles will be added to the fleet, which includes 50 mountain bikes and eight e-bikes that were purchased last year
An Garda Síochána is set to spend €250,000 on 200 new mountain bikes as it expands bicycle-mounted patrols of towns and cities across the country.
An initial order for 100 bicycles is expected to be submitted within 30 days of a contract being signed, followed by two further purchase orders for 50 bikes, if required. In 2019, it was reported that An Garda Síochána had spent nearly €72,000 repairing bikes over the previous five years. Another €626,108 had been spent on bicycle clothing, while €11,237 had been paid out for decals.
