A man was arrested by gardai following an incident outside Mr Steenson’s offices in Dublin’s North Strand on Wednesday

Gardai are investigating claims of an alleged threat to kill European election candidate Malachy Steenson.

READ MORE: Grandmother, 74, who's a mum of 16 jailed over €28,000 false 'trip and slip' insurance claims Mr Steenson’s nephew answered the door to the man who it is claimed told him he was there to kill the European election candidate. “He was banging on the door roaring and shouting and my nephew opened the door and said what do you want?,” Mr Steenson told us.

Mr Steenson said the incident won’t deter him from campaigning. “It won’t deter us. I’ve faced down bigger people than that in the whole of my lifetime. The guards were on the ball. I can’t fault them for that. Had my wife or someone else opened the door it could have been a lot different. Thankfully nobody was injured.”
