Gardai say they immediately revoked rapist Raymond Shorten’s taxi licence - the moment investigations against him commenced
two years ago.
“Individual cases such as Raymond Shorten are in the tiny minority who do not represent their professional colleagues,” a Garda spokesperson said. Gardai stated that normally under the Taxi Regulation Act 2013, a person is only disqualified from holding a PSV licence when convicted of an offence. “The Taxi Regulation Act 2013 sets out criteria which may be considered by the licensing authority in making this determination. Upon the commencement of the criminal investigations into Raymond Shorten in these cases in 2022, which were concluded before the courts today, Raymond Shortens SPSV drivers licence was revoked by An Garda Síochána.”
“When booking/ hiring a taxi you can check details of the vehicle and driver through the TFI Driver Check App,” they said. “If booking a taxi online always check the taxi roof sign number against your booking before getting in the vehicle.
