The woman, who was being cared for last night, was rescued by gardaí yesterday evening in Co Mayo – after officers took the rare step of issuing an urgent appeal for the public to help them find a suspect van
Gardai were last night questioning a man over the suspected false imprisonment of a woman on a 300km horror journey.
Within 30 minutes of the appeal being aired, a member of the public spotted a Renault Traffic van near Kiltimagh - and officers swooped and found the woman inside it. The suspect, who is from the Midlands, was immediately arrested – and was being held in a Mayo Garda station last night on suspicion of false imprisonment.Officers were last night trying to establish what exactly happened – but believe the man and woman knew each other in some way and had arranged to meet up.
