Exclusive - We put the request in after the High Court heard last Wednesday that it seemed drones were being used to drop unlit petrol bombs to the site, which has been the subject of ongoing protests and occasional violence over plans to house some 500 mostly Ukrainian refugees there.

Gardai say they have no evidence that drones were being used to deliver petrol bombs to the controversial former Crown Paints site in Coolock – despite a court hearing fears of that a week ago.

A lawyer for the developer and leaseholder of the Malahide Road site said incendiary devices were found near the property and it seems these were dropped off by drones ready for collection by individuals. He permitted them to serve the orders on “persons unknown” attending at the facility “for the purpose of protest” by publishing the order details in two national newspapers.

Gardaí said the devices were recovered after a search operation at Dunree Park and Moatfield Avenue on Tuesday morning, less than 24 hours after the trouble flared. A spokeswoman said: “An Garda Síochána continues a criminal investigation into all of the circumstances of the Violent Disorder and Public Order events that occurred on Monday 15th July 2024 in Coolock, Dublin 17.

The spokeswoman said all the devices recovered were seized and have been sent for technical examination – sources say that will include fingerprint and DNA analysis to try to establish who put them there. “An Garda Síochána wishes to acknowledge the significant volume of support received from the public to date including calls to Coolock Garda Station, the Garda Confidential phone number and receipt of images and videos from members of the public. An Garda Síochána is appealing to anyone who may have witnessed these incidents to come forward.’
