Gary Lineker has been presenting Match of the Day since 1999 but the former England star will eventually have to leave the hot seat, and he's hinted at his long-term successor
Gary Lineker hinted live on air that Jermaine Jenas will eventually replace him as the lead presenter of Match of the Day.
The ex-Tottenham midfielder has already presented Match of the Day 2, led spin-off programme MOTDx - which was recently cancelled after four years - and regularly hosts BBC staple The One Show. Now Lineker has given further credence to the idea of Jenas taking over from him after dropping a hint during Saturday's broadcast which showcased the weekend's Premier League highlights.
All three had a cheesy grin on their faces as Lineker moved to the next segment, as it's no secret that Jenas would love the top job after gaining experience presenting other shows. "I would obviously be up for it," the ex- Newcastle hotshot told the Daily Mail. "It's Match of the Day and it would be a great opportunity."
