Bertie Ahern issued a stark warning to his party colleagues as he paints worrying election picture for Fianna Fail

Bertie Ahern has issued a stark warning that Fianna Fail could face its worst ever election result if it loses its traditional Republican ethos.

He advised the party he led for 11 years it needs to “stick solidly to what we were founded for” and that there was no need to be “switching ground.” The most successful Fianna Fáil leader of modern times was speaking at a party event which the Irish Mirror has heard a recording of.The stark warning was met with a mix of cheers, mumbles and gasps from the party crowd at the Clayton Hotel event last Thursday night.

The Mirror heard the warnings at the meeting of Fianna Fáil activists in Dublin Bay South where Mr Ahern warned the party risks heading on a downward spiral.
