State Senate voted on Monday to cap the state’s lucrative film and TV tax credit at $900 million per year.

The proposal faces an uncertain future and will be subject to negotiation with the state House of Representatives. The Senate Finance Committee proposed an alternative, under which deductions would be retained, and the rate would drop to 4.99% over the course of several years. To offset the added cost of that proposal, the committee proposed reining in the film and TV credit.
