Gerard “The Monk” Hutch is poised to secure a Dáil seat in Dublin Central after receiving a significant number of transferred votes following the elimination of Independent candidate Malachy Steenson . The counting process resumed early Sunday, with Mr Hutch benefiting from the redistribution of Steenson’s votes. By count seven, Hutch had received 1,262 transferred votes, raising his total to 4,995.
Labour’s Marie Sherlock, currently at 2,990 votes, may gain from Green Party candidate Neasa Hourigan’s transferred votes, but is expected to fall short compared to Mr Hutch. While Gary Gannon of the Social Democrats is all but certain of his win, with 6,533 votes, the battle for the fourth seat is between Mr Hutch and Ms Sherlock, as the count continues
