The veteran crime figure was among a large crowd of supporters who watched Kellie win her semi-final on a big screen in Dublin on Saturday
Gerry ‘The Monk’ Hutch is backing boxer Kellie Harrington to win her second successive Olympic gold medal when she steps into the ring for the women’s lightweight final tomorrow night.
The veteran crime figure has described Kellie as a “special kid” and said her heroics at the Olympics in Paris was “fabulous for the local community”. Hutch told the Sunday Independent: “Kellie was a special kid – always was – and I hope she gets gold but win, lose or draw – we all have her back.” Kellie is now just one step away from joining Fintan McCarthy, Paul O’Donovan and Dr Pat O’Callaghan as the only Irish athletes to successfully defend an Olympic title.
