A Ghost remake, with Channing Tatum in the role previously played by Patrick Swayze, is currently in development, according to the actor.

A remake of the 1990 classic film Ghost is in the works with Channing Tatum in the leading role. Directed by Jerry Zucker, Ghost starred Patrick Swayze as banker Sam Wheat who gets murdered by his friend and corrupt business partner Carl Bruner over a bad deal. He is then left to roam the earth as a powerless spirit.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY In an interview with Vanity Fair, Tatum told the publication that they have secured the rights to Ghost and are moving forward with a remake of the 1990 original. Tatum said that he would star in Patrick Swayze's iconic role, but added that some changes would have to be made in their planned rendition of the film to make it work for a modern-day audience.

Whoopi Goldberg, who recently reprised her Star Trek role in Star Trek: Picard, isn't known to have a presence in the remake, but she recently talked about the original movie's social relevance in a different light. The Oda Mae Brown actor has said that a potential reason for the long wait for a Ghost remake or sequel could have to do with the diversity of the cast, telling The Independent, “We were a very mixed cast...

There are plenty of conversations that still follow the film, even more than 30 years after its release. Tatum's comments make it clear that the filmmakers of the remake are aware of all those things, though, and it shouldn't be a difficult task to make a Ghost remake that resonates with a modern audience and fans of the original film. Ghost is another movie in the growing list of Tatum's upcoming release slate.
