Saquon Barkley will not be attending the Giants' mandatory minicamp this week as he has not signed his franchise tag offer. He said the possibility of sitting out for the season is a “conversation” and “a card (he) could play.”

In a statement to ESPN, Barkley said his “goal is to be compensated respectfully based on contributions to the team and the locker room,” and is “not looking to set any contract records.”When asked about potentially playing on the franchise tag this season at his youth football event in New Jersey on Sunday, Barkley said, “We got until July 17, right? So I guess I would make those decisions or start thinking about that when July 17 comes.

“That comes up in conversation if something doesn’t get done by July 17. We got a little bit of time in between there,” Barkley added. “When that date comes up, then I’ll have to sit down with my team, sit down with my family and make decisions. See what we’re going to do. What’s the next game plan. What’s the next move.”

Barkley continued by acknowledging he hadn’t yet considered missing time this upcoming season: “I haven’t thought about it because it’s not July 17 yet.” Saquon Barkley was asked if he was optimistic about the July 17 deadline to make a deal and he said he doesn’t know.
