Four women from a girl group named Girls5eva reunite to find musical success again after their brief popularity in the early 2000s. Despite being canceled after its second season, the show has been picked up by Netflix for a third season.
Its great premise follows four women (Busy Philipps, Paula Pell, Sara Bareilles and Renée Elise Goldsberry) who were part of a girl group named Girls5eva , which was briefly popular around the year 2000 before fading into one-hit-wonder status. Now, unfulfilled in their various lives and after having a hit single sampled by a young rapper, they reunite to try to find musical success again.
Created by Meredith Scardino (a writer on Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt) and executively produced by Tina Fey and Robert Carlock (30 Rock), Girls5eva initially premiered on Peacock in the States in 2021 to rave reviews.Despite this acclaim though, it never seemed to find its right audience at Peacock, who ultimately decided to cancel the show when its second season ended. In a bit of a shock takeover, however, Netflix swooped in to buy the rights to the series and move forward with a third season, which has just dropped in its entirety on the streaming giant and comprises of six episode
