The First Minister and Deputy First Minister of Northern Ireland are to attend a wreath laying ceremony in Dublin marking the anniversary of the Battle of the Somme

The annual ceremony of remembrance is taking place in the Irish National War Memorial Gardens, at Islandbridge, in Dublin.

Paul Givan, who became First Minister last month, and Deputy First Minister Michelle O'Neill will be joined at the event by Minister of State Jack Chambers, representing the Taoiseach and the Irish Government. Major General Sean Clancy, Deputy Chief of Staff of the Defence Forces will also attend the event, which is hosted by the Royal British Legion.The annual event is held on the anniversary of commencement of the Battle of The Somme.The RBL say the event "remembers all those who lost their lives in the two World Wars - in particular, the estimated 60,000 Irish men and women from all parts of the Island who served and died in those conflicts.
