John Hooper went into cardiac arrest outside Clober Golf Club on Craigton Road in the East Dunbartonshire town on May 18 this year and was saved by quick-thinking neighbours

A grandad from Milngavie who collapsed while on his morning run was saved by quick-thinking neighbours and paramedics.

Grandad-of-three, and dad-of-one, John said: "Were it not for the efforts of everyone involved I would not be here today. I am so grateful to your staff. Having performed CPR several times myself when I was an operational fire officer, I never thought it would need to be performed on me." Sophie said: "It was amazing to meet John and his family and to see him looking so well. Not often do you hear stories of people making a full recovery after an out of hospital cardiac arrest. We were just a small part of a big chain of people that helped in John's recovery and I wish him all the best for the future."
