Glaswegians have expressed their shock and dismay at Shearer Candles suddenly closing its doors after 127 years in business, with workers told the company was entering 'voluntary liquidation'.
Glaswegians have expressed their 'devastation' after a beloved 127-year-old candle business entered liquidation.
One worker told Glasgow Live: "We were told to go to the canteen. We heard that the company had undergone voluntary liquidation. READ MORE: Historic Glasgow candle factory employees told to pack up and go as company enters 'liquidation'"We were told that severance pay, notice and earned holidays will not be paid to us by the company. We have to apply for it ourselves on the government website. Some employees have worked there for 15 years or more."
Many people also said how fond they were of the business, with one saying: "No way!! This is awful. I love this place. The staff are lovely and don’t deserve that."
