A UK minister has admitted that councils that got levelling up funding in the previous round would be ruled out in round two.
In a House of Commons debate, Glasgow MPs were outraged at the city being denied funds and wasting time and money on bids that were never going to succeed. In response, levelling up minister Dehenna Davison told MPs why Glasgow missed out. “The second round will be funding areas in Great Britain that have not received funding before to ensure that investment reaches as many places as possible across rounds one and two.”She said: “My understanding is that Ministers intervened at the last minute to say that if a local authority had been awarded funding of any amount in the first round, no bids could be awarded funding in this round.
Chris Stephens, Glasgow South West SNP MP, wanted to know how many councils were told they would get something, and then did not.He said: “I have heard that Glasgow officials were told that their bids were excellent.
