Following a biopsy it was revealed the schoolboy was battling stage four rhabdomyosarcoma, a type of soft tissue cancer. Jamal sadly lost his life a day after being rushed to hospital.
Staff at a Glasgow nursery who took on the race for life in memory of a beloved pupil have received praise from MPs at the House of Commons.
The 10-year-old's family noticed the youngster's face change in December 2022. After taking the boy to the doctors he was diagnosed with Bell's Palsy, which is temporary weakness or lack of movement that affects one side of the face. Following a biopsy it was revealed the schoolboy was battling stage four rhabdomyosarcoma, a type of soft tissue cancer. Whilst attending Pollkshields Primary on September 5 the Jamal complained of a pain his legs, and within hours he was unable to walk. The pupil was rushed to hospital where the family were told that the cancer had spread to his bones, causing spinal cord compression. A day after he was admitted to hospital Jamal sadly lost his life.
Their efforts were praised by Glasgow Central MP Alison Thewliss at Westminster on April 25, prior to the group taking on the challenge.
