Police Scotland Greater Glasgow issued the warning asking people to stay vigilant
Greater Glasgow police have issued a warning to locals amid an ongoing scam that is "common" and targets your bank account.
The text asks people to text a number because their phone is 'broken' with the scammer, who usually pretends to be a close friend or family member, telling them it's urgent and to text them as soon as they see the message.The example text the police has shown reads: "Hello mum, I had an incident today my phone is fully broken. I'm using a friends phone text you now. Pls text my new number [number here] asap, it's important x'.
If you think someone is calling to trick you into giving them money or your personal details, hang up and call 159. This is a secure service that connects you directly with your bank.
