Workers at Glasgow City Council are among those across the country who have voted to take industrial action on September 13 and 14.

Glasgow’s cleansing workers are backing education staff who voted to take strike action next month over an ongoing pay dispute.

Chris Mitchell, Convenor for the GMB branch 40, said: “Cosla needs to meet with the trade unions again and hopefully there will be a more improved offer on the table. Keir Greenaway, the union’s senior organiser in public services, said they are united in their determination to win a fair pay offer. “And council leaders and government ministers should not be surprised by the strength of determination shown by workers all across the country to secure fair pay or the solidarity shown by staff for their council colleagues wherever they work and whatever they do.”

A COSLA Spokesperson added: “The reality of the situation is that as employers, council leaders have made a strong offer to the workforce. A strong offer which clearly illustrates the value Councils place on their workforce, and it compares well to other sectors. It recognises the cost-of-living pressures on our workforce and critically, it seeks to protect jobs and services.
