In the past month, two major firms involved in off-site residential construction have announced plans to close down operations in the UK and the US

The Construction Industry Federation has warned that high-profile collapses of off-site construction businesses worldwide make it difficult for Irish firms to commit to investment in this homebuilding method.

In a submission to the Oireachtas Housing Committee, Tom Parlon, director general of the CIF, said there is an opportunity for the industry to double its production scale using so-called modern methods of construction, but there is uncertainty over demand for homes built using this approach.
