Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola believes Nico Gonzalez can fill the void left by injured Rodri after the midfielder made a strong Premier League debut in City's 4-0 victory over Newcastle. Gonzalez, signed for £50 million on the final day of the January transfer window, impressed Guardiola with his maturity and tactical awareness. Despite Gonzalez's promising performance, it was another January signing, Omar Marmoush, who stole the show with a first-half hat-trick.
PEP GUARDIOLA believes Nico Gonzalez can step into the void left by Rodri after making an impressive Premier League debut in Manchester City’s 4-0 thrashing of Newcastle on Saturday.
Gonzalez arrived on the final day of the mid-season transfer window from Porto for a £50 million fee and took little time to find his feet in arguably City’s best performance of the season to date against the Magpies. He is so young, 23, like a mini-Rodri.
“He’s a player that we missed. His movement in behind, his pace. Normally, we have the players to get the ball to feet. He’s a guy who likes to attack the space and help us to create more,” added Guardiola.The victory lifted City back into pole position to qualify for next season’s Champions League.
