Government accused of ignoring whether university students have 'enough to eat' poppyeh reports
Universities have accused the Government of caring more about red tape than ensuring students can eat.
The report said the “recent spike in inflation” meant loans would have to increase by 13.7 per cent next year to “maintain their value… in real terms”. “Let’s be clear: the Government has a choice. It is actively choosing to ignore its own analysis,” he said. “The fact that the DfE’s own equality assessment says uplifting maintenance loans by just 2.8 per cent next year will have a negative impact on students underlines how flawed the system is.”
