The government is considering new ways to collect the TV licence fee in order to keep RTÉ afloat amid the recent payment scandal which saw public trust in the broadcaster eroded
The government is considering new ways of collecting the TV license fee - including allowing Revenue to collect the fee directly or by introducing a new media levy for all households.
According to the Irish Times, the government are also exploring whether introducing a media charge for every household, regardless of whether they own a TV, would be more effective. The former Late Late presenter was due to return to his radio show in September for a salary of €170,000.
