People yet to receive vaccine taking a ‘roll of the dice’, immunologist says
“They’ve got a choice between the vaccine and the virus, if they take that risk, it’s a roll of the dice,” Prof Paul Moynagh told Newstalk Breakfast.
There was also the issue of breakthrough infections, which were not a failure of vaccination but were part of the normal immune response which tended to wane four to five months after receiving a second dose. He said more attention should be paid to the numbers being hospitalised and in intensive care units than the number of cases given who test positive did not experience symptoms or serious illness because of vaccination.
Anne O’Connor said the health service was going to do things in a different way to try to keep people out of hospital amid rising pressures due to Covid-19 and other matters.
