EU told the government it would have to wait for the EU to legislate as a bloc for an internal combustion engine ban in 2035, but the government will still strive to make all new car sales fully electric by 2030
The government has dropped plans to legislate for the banning of new fossil fuel car sales by 2030, the Business Post can reveal.
The proposal was included in the programme for government in summer 2020. The draft heads of a bill which would have embedded the 2030 ban in law had previously been published by Richard Bruton, the former minister for the environment.
