The Government is aiming to get 75,000 long-term unemployed people back to work within two years as part of its Pathways to Work Strategy. |
The plan, which will be launched today, will also seek to cut the current youth unemployment rate of 44% to 12.5% by 2023.
Minister for Social Protection Heather Humphreys is expected to commit to looking at introducing a pay-related jobseekers' payment based on people's income and PRSI payments. The work strategy will also offer employers a subsidy of between €7,500 and €10,000 if they offer a job to a long-term unemployed person aged under 30.
A grant of €1,000 will be made available to self-employed people to part take in training courses to learn new skills.
