Government blasted for giving green-light to projects without planning permission

A TD blasted the Government for green-lighting cash for projects which haven’t even got planning permission.

At the end of January Jesus and Mary College, Our Lady’s Grove, in Goatstown, South Dublin, was allocated the money to be used for a new astro floodlit pitch with changing rooms.The application was initially deemed invalid under the 2017 round of the Sports Capital Programme, but was resubmitted and approved.

“And now the question the minister has to ask is, was it a wise decision to go ahead and grant that substantial amount of money to a project that mightn’t come out the other end? He added: “The current terms and conditions of the Sports Capital Programme do not require that planning permission is in place prior to submitting an application for funding.
