A grandmother suffered fatal injuries when she was hit by a car while crossing a road just 50 metres from her home, an inquest heard.
The driver of the vehicle, Conor Feeney, told a sitting of Dublin District Coroner’s Court he was driving home from work heading out of Galway on the N59 Clifden road when a woman suddenly stepped out on to the road in front of him.In reply to questions from the coroner, Aisling Gannon, Mr Feeney said he was surprised to find someone crossing the road at that location.
Ms Burke said the injured pedestrian, of Dangan Heights, Newcastle, Galway, also had blood on her face and at the back of her head. A witness, Mohammed Elmorsi, recalled how he had gone out for a walk around dusk when he saw an elderly lady crossing the N59 at Dangan towards him at around 4.50pm.
