The grand jury Monday indicted Leander Bissell, 40, on charges of murder, felonious assault, involuntary manslaughter, failure to comply, failure to stop after an accident and aggravated vehicular homicide.
Tetrick, 51, of Kirtland, was killed while working at an accident scene Nov. 19 on Interstate 90 in Bratenahl. He was struck by a car driven by Leander Bissell, 40, who then drove away, according to authorities.
The indictment comes two days after hundreds of firefighters and friends from across the country honored Tetrick at his funeral at Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse. He served 27 years as a firefighter for the city. He served most of his career on Engine 22 on Superior Avenue. He is a father to three daughters: Falon, 23; Regan, 20; and Eden, 18.
Bissell drove his vehicle around the left side of a police cruiser onto the shoulder of the highway, veered right into the second lane from the left and accelerated, O’Malley’s office said. Bissell then struck Tetrick as he cleared debris from the earlier crash. Bissell, without braking, immediately fled the scene, according to the prosecutors.
