George V Playing Fields in Uppermill is now home to another outlet for Diggle-based Grandpa Greene’s luxury ice cream
A popular ice-cream company has revealed a first glimpse of its new cafe and restaurant in Uppermill. Grandpa Greene's has opened its new space in King George V Playing Fields on Wade Row for takeaway ahead of the full launch of its cafe next Friday .
The green light came despite some objections from residents and a parish councillor who raised concerns about the effect of serving alcohol within the King George V Playing Fields. Under the approved terms of the licence, Grandpa Greene’s will serve alcohol from 11am to 7pm, Monday to Sunday at the new venue. The company also insisted alcohol would only be served inside, and with food – such as Prosecco with afternoon tea.
"We are open from 9a, all things ice cream, both hot and cold drinks and a range of takeaway sandwiches. Bakes will also be here from 12pm, who's coming to join us."
