Having witnessed two World Wars and three Coronations, Elsie has shared her heartfelt intention to stay rooted in the place that holds a lifetime of memories for her
Dad-of-four Raymond, who is divorced, moved in 30 years ago when his dad Mark became ill. Every morning, Raymond, rises at 5am to embark on a fishing expedition, ensuring that he brings Elsie a comforting cup of tea before he sets off.
Reflecting on the changing times, Elsie reminisces about a bustling main street filled with 30 shops and 11 pubs, which has now dwindled to just two of each. She fondly recalls witnessing significant historical events such as the Coronation and glimpsing a young Queen Mary, the Queen Mother.She got a card from King Charles, who Raymond referred to as 'Charlie'. Elsie even penned a letter challenging the decision to make senior citizens pay for TV licenses.
Raymond, a retired bricklayer, praises his mother's independence and describes her as"perfect," aside from minor health issues. He said if his mum had a message for the younger generation it would be"don't sit on your backside and go to work".Raymond said:"There aren't many people who buy a house they were born in. I moved in with her when my father took ill, I moved in to look after her but she looks after me. She's very independent.
"She's got bad feet and a bad shoulder and ears but apart from that she's perfect. Our family treat her like a queen."
