Saoirse McHugh believes the performance of the Fianna Fail propped-up Fine Gael minority government since 2016 may help her bid for a Dail seat
Green Party election hopeful has slammed the policies of the established parties, claiming they focus on “the profits of the very richest”.Hailed as the Green Party’s “rising star” has not ruled out getting into bed with any coalition partners and said the will of the people will decide.
Ms McHugh, from Achill Island in Co Mayo, told the Irish Mirror: “When I said I wouldn’t go into coalition with Fine Gael or Fianna Fail I meant I wouldn’t go into a party whose policies are like those of Fianna Fail or Fine Gael. “I wouldn’t support a party that thinks the profits of the very richest is put ahead of people, communities and the environment.
“I know the party hasn’t ruled out any coalition and like that you’ll have to get the support of the membership.She is attempting to break the Fine Gael and Fianna Fail stranglehold on the Mayo five-seat constituency.
