The Green Party’s co-leaders have described their sole MP Caroline Lucas as a “force of nature” after she announced her intention to step down at the next general election.
Ms Lucas, who has represented Brighton Pavilion since 2010, announced on Thursday that she will not be standing for re-election., the former party leader said it was the “honour and privilege” of her life to be elected as the UK’s first Green MP more than a decade ago. Reacting to the news, co-leader of the Green Party, Carla Denyer, said: “Caroline’s impact on politics in this country cannot be overstated: she truly is a force of nature and has been an extraordinary servant of the people of Brighton Pavilion as well as the Green Party. We are so proud of her achievements.”
Ms Denyer praised Ms Lucas for “securing significant policy changes” and “modelling a different way of doing politics”. Joint leader Adrian Ramsay added: “Very few politicians can claim to have changed the course of the national debate in the way Caroline has. She has brought so much to us as a party, shown real integrity in her work and added a crucial dimension to our democracy in this country.”She wrote in
