Eight years of waiting: Widow's perseverance pays off in court verdict
A woman from Spilsby who lost her husband and stepdaughter in a fatal crash in Belgium can finally find solace as the High Court provided answers after an arduous eight-year wait.
Despite previous judgments in the Belgian Courts placing the blame solely on Alain, the recent High Court judgment concluded that the driver of the Mitsubishi bore primary responsibility for the collision. "Then to be told that Alain wasn’t going to survive and we had to say our goodbyes was incredibly traumatic. I was completely heartbroken.
"I also hope that by sharing my story, I can urge others to stay safe on the roads. My life was completely shattered in a few seconds and I wouldn’t wish that on anyone.”Deborah and Alain were living in Messancy, Belgium, at the time of the accident, having relocated there in 2013. Amandine frequently spent weekends and holidays with them.
Additionally, it concluded that the Mitsubishi driver had veered to the left, into the turning lane, at the point of collision.
