A guilt-ridden boyfriend reported himself to the police after he punched his partner in the face
. Stephen Batchelor, 30, assaulted the victim at her home in Walker, while children were asleep upstairs, before dialling 999 and confessing to "beating her up".
He was given a 12-month community order and must pay £85 costs and a £95 victim surcharge. Prosecutor at Newcastle Magistrates' Court, Lillian Yanes Hellevik, said that the assault happened on March 14, 2022, Chronicle Live reports. "When officers attended, they could see the victim had some injuries. She had an injury to her face and ribs. It was the defendant who called the police to say there has been a domestic incident with his partner and he had beaten her up."
