Manchester City could still strengthen their squad in the last two weeks of the transfer window after injuries and exits have hit the Blues.
Pep Guardiola was asked at his Manchester City unveiling what the most important qualities were that he looked for in a player. His response: "To be a good teammate."
Now Kevin De Bruyne is injured, and City face a race against time to find reinforcements before the transfer deadline in two weeks, should they wish. Guardiola has just taken City to their highest-ever point - and now he faces as big a challenge as he has ever had to rebuild that squad.Guardiola led City to the UEFA Super Cup on Wednesday, with an injury-hit side stumbling to a penalty shoot-out win over Sevilla. It wasn't pretty, but neither was the Champions League final.
His use of Philipp Lahm at Bayern Munich was the precursor to his evolution of John Stones at City, while another diagram illustrates the sheer number of top-class managers and coaches who have been influenced by him. From expected names like Xavi to Thierry Henry and Mikel Arteta, to the less expected ones like Thomas Tuchel, Steve Cooper, Graham Potter, Erik Ten Hag and Roberto De Zerbi.
City snapped up Croatian pair Mateo Kovacic and Josko Gvardiol from Chelsea and RB Leipzig respectively, while Treble winners Ilkay Gundogan departed for Barcelona and Riyad Mahrez moved to Saudi Arabia. Aymeric Laporte's future at the club is now a hot topic too after City accepted an offer from Al Nassr for his services. Keep an eye on that one over the next couple of days.
"If you look at the seasons we had together there was not one season we played identically," says Gundogan. "There were always little details that changed. Trying to play the same type of football for many years brings certain dangers with it.
