Shane Flynn, a former gym owner from Ireland, was sentenced to two years and four months in prison for sexually assaulting a client and secretly filming dozens of other women topless during massages.

Shane Flynn, a 35-year-old former gym owner and personal trainer, has been sentenced to two years and four months in prison for sexually assaulting a woman seeking treatment for chronic back pain at his clinic in Mullingar, County Westmeath, Ireland. Flynn, who owned and operated the NGS Gym & Rehabilitation Clinic, was found guilty by a jury following a six-day trial in October. The court heard that Flynn secretly filmed dozens of other women topless during massages at his clinic.

The footage, recovered from his laptop, showed him making suggestive remarks to women aged 18 to their mid-50s. While the videos did not depict any non-consensual behavior, they were deemed offensive and constituted a violation of privacy. Flynn pleaded not guilty to the sexual assault charge but admitted to recording the women without their knowledge or consent. The judge, Ronan Munro, acknowledged Flynn's skills as a therapist but condemned his actions as a systematic exploitation of vulnerable women seeking help. He praised the victim for her courage in coming forward and exposing Flynn's crimes, stating that her actions had made the world a safer place. Flynn, who is a new father, attempted to mitigate the sentence, expressing remorse and begging for a second chance. He offered €5,000 to the court, which will be paid to the victim. However, the judge emphasized that the damage Flynn had inflicted was irreparable and that a custodial sentence was necessary. The sentence for the sexual assault was three years, with 16 months suspended on condition that Flynn maintain the peace, remain on probation, and make restitution to the victim. The victim expressed the desire for the compensation to be donated to a charity supporting sexual assault survivors. A further eight months' imprisonment was imposed for the secret recordings, to be served consecutively to the sexual assault sentence. Flynn was also ordered to complete a sexual offending treatment program upon release and remain under probation supervision for one year. Despite the severity of his crimes, the court heard testimonies from past clients praising Flynn's helpfulness and expertise in treating various conditions, including Parkinson's disease
